About Reel Sisters CO.

Thanks for visiting Reel Sisters Colorado.

I was born into a fishing family. Growing up on the beaches of North Florida, I spent most of my days by the ocean.  On any given weekend my Dad would load my four brothers and I and our fishing gear and we’d hang out at the Jacksonville Beach peer talking “fish” with the locals. I was a Salty Fisher woman until I moved to Colorado and fell in love with Trout. In addition to fishing,  I’ve been a Certified Massage Therapist for over 20 years, Virtual Tour provider, gardener, scuba diver, cook extraordinaire, reader (mostly novels), and lover of  life.

Reel Sisters was born from friendship, an appreciation for the beauty of the Colorado outdoors and a love of fishing. We were “birthed” by Guy Montera from “Fly’s by Guy” who took us under his wing and showed us his special “cast a bubble” and “propeller wet fly” technique and showed us all his favorite places to fish.  The Reel Sisters in their pink vest were soon dotting the high mountain reservoirs and streams of Central Colorado. Some of us took up fly fishing and with Guy’s direction I learned to tie flies. We all had a “first cast” and “first fly” tied.  It is in the spirit of  “beginners mind” that this site was birthed.  Learning is forever.

The invitation of Reel Sisters is to have fun, share ideas, pictures, stories and information and to inspire other anglers to nurture their passion for fishing and fly tying.  I invite you to visit often, share freely, and become part of the Reel Sisters family.

    Hi Avril,
    Just saw the new website.
    Looks GREAT!
I just had a new customer come in, a beginning fly angler, and I recommended that she check out your site.

    Cheers,
    Shannon

      Hi Shannon,
Thanks so much. Hope to have the new “revised” site finished this week.
Still working out a few glitches but the end feels closer. I still have you
on my list of “guest tiers” and would love to get a bit of info on your
caddis(how you developed, how you fish it, etc.). Thanks again for all your
      support and encouragement. avril

It is such a pleasure to find your site! This past February I joined a fly fishing club with my husband, and fell in love with fly tying — still not very good, but just creating something is exhilarating!

Avril, This site is indeed a labor of love, full of educational her-stories. Love the pink! Those who thirst the cast of a rod and the thrill of a “fish on” will be delighted to share nature, community and passion “Reel Sisters” provides. Keep up the fine work, you got me “hooked.”

    Rachel,
His light lives here in every place we fish and every fly I tie. Gillian is a “Reel Sister” and she is always welcome to fish with us anytime. I’d be happy to set that up.

    Avril,

I am crying…actually I am balling….I miss my sweet daddy so much. Thank you so much for including him and myh daughter in the slideshow. She was such buddies with her Papa. She and him were just alike…he always called her his kindred spirit. My heart aches for her grief of not having her best friend anymore. Hard to learn at 7 years old. You did a beautiful job. Love to see you again..we will be in BV this coming weekend and then the week of june 16th (my mom’s birthday)

    Kindness Always,
